By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. About Vocabee
Vocabee is a vocabulary-building and language-learning app with a real-world “capture” mechanic. You find everyday objects around you and photograph them with your device camera to learn vocabulary through clues, descriptions, audio, and progress tracking.
Vocabee is an educational tool. We do not guarantee specific learning outcomes.
2. Relationship to Apple’s Terms
The App is licensed to you, not sold. Unless we have published a separate custom licence agreement in App Store Connect, your licence to use the App is Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”), available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula.
These Terms govern the Vocabee service that we provide. Where these Terms conflict with the Standard EULA on a matter that the Standard EULA covers, the Standard EULA controls.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old, or older if your country sets a higher minimum age for consenting to online services, to use Vocabee. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
4. Account and Security
An account is required to use Vocabee. We support sign-in with Apple, Google, and email using a one-time link or code, all through Supabase authentication.
You are responsible for keeping your account and your device secure. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe someone else has accessed your account.
5. Real-World Safety
Vocabee involves real-world exploration and camera use. You agree to use the App safely and responsibly, including:
- Staying aware of your surroundings
- Following all laws and local rules
- Respecting private property—no trespassing
- Respecting other people’s privacy when photographing
- Not using the App while driving or doing anything else where your attention is needed
We are not responsible for injuries, accidents, or legal issues resulting from unsafe or unlawful use of the App.
6. Permissions
Camera (required for capture). Vocabee needs camera access to capture objects. Without it, the capture feature will not work.
Location (optional, off by default). You can choose to tag captures with where you took them. Vocabee asks for location permission only after you turn this on, records your position at the moment of capture, and stores it on your device with the capture. Resolving the place name uses Apple’s geocoding service, so the coordinates are sent to Apple for that lookup; they are never sent to Vocabee’s servers. You can turn it off from the capture screen at any time, or revoke the permission in iOS Settings. Section 1e of our Privacy Policy has the detail.
You can manage all permissions in your device settings.
7. Photos, AI Processing, and Generated Content
Your photos are stored on your device. Vocabee does not save your photos to our servers.
To recognize what you captured, Vocabee sends a compressed copy of the image to our backend, which forwards it to Google’s Gemini API to identify the object and generate a lesson. Lesson audio is generated from the lesson text using Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. We do not store the image; we do store the lesson and analysis the model produces, linked to your account. Section 1 of our Privacy Policy sets this out in full.
Lessons, descriptions, example sentences, and audio in Vocabee are generated by AI and can be wrong. Do not rely on them as authoritative language, factual, safety, medical, or legal information. Tell us at [email protected] if you see output that is inaccurate or inappropriate.
You keep ownership of the photos you take. By using the capture feature, you grant us the limited licence needed to process your image and generate, store, and show you the resulting lesson, and to review a sample of generated lessons for quality and safety.
You are responsible for what you photograph. Do not capture other people without their agreement where that would be unlawful, and do not capture content you have no right to use.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Misuse, disrupt, or interfere with the App, servers, or networks
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or access the source code except as permitted by law
- Use the App for unlawful, abusive, or harmful purposes
- Submit content designed to produce unlawful, hateful, or sexually explicit output
- Circumvent security, access controls, or usage limits, or use automated means to generate lessons at scale
9. Subscriptions and Payments
Vocabee offers optional paid access through Apple In-App Purchase. Free features remain available without a subscription.
- Plans and prices are shown in the App before you confirm, in your local currency, on the purchase screen provided by Apple. The App Store is the source of truth for the price and billing interval that apply to you.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trials, where offered. If a subscription includes an introductory free trial, it converts into a paid subscription automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Trial eligibility is determined by Apple. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if you buy a subscription during the trial period.
- Managing and cancelling. Manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or at any time through your Apple Account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Deleting the App does not cancel your subscription, and neither does deleting your Vocabee account. Cancel through Apple as described above.
- Restoring purchases. Use Restore Purchases in the App to recover an active subscription on a new device or after reinstalling, using the same Apple Account.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue App Store refunds directly. This does not affect any refund or cancellation rights you have under the mandatory consumer law of your country.
- Changes. If we change subscription prices or what a plan includes, we will tell you in advance, and Apple will ask for your consent where its rules require it. You can cancel before the change takes effect.
10. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy. We do not sell user data.
11. Intellectual Property
All rights, title, and interest in and to Vocabee—including the software, design, text, graphics, logos, and educational content—are owned by Raconte Limited or its licensors.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App unless we give written permission.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms or use the App in a way that harms users or the integrity or security of the App.
You may stop using Vocabee at any time. You can delete your account in the App at Settings → Account → Delete Account, which permanently removes your account and your saved progress. Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription—see Section 9.
13. Disclaimers
The App is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Raconte Limited is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the App.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your mandatory rights as a consumer.
15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“Hong Kong SAR”), without regard to conflict-of-law rules. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong SAR for disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App. If the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings there, these Terms do not take that right away.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and may notify you through the App or in store update notes.
Continued use of Vocabee after updates means you accept the revised Terms.
